About Peace Love and Cloth

How it all began...
While researching cloth diapering and baby woolens for my son, I became convinced that cloth diapers and woolens will make a happy baby and family. After a couple years of information gathering, and trial and error, I have found diapering systems that provide comfort and high quality in healthy natural fibers.

I am a Registered Nurse and have been working in that field for seven years; I specialize in labor, delivery and post-partum work. I also attended Midwifery School just before the birth of my son and have been to over 100 births. I love working with babies, and I strive to understand the unique needs of babies and children. I'm testing out new diapers on my daughter and my son has outgrown his cloth diapers and woolen covers but my passion for keeping babies and children comfortable, warm, happy and healthy doesn't end with diapers.

Wool, silk, and alpaca are natural fibers which have several beneficial qualities including the fact that garments made with them stay warm when wet; they also have antibacterial properties which keep them clean longer. Materials made from these fibers are also extremely breathable, which means they release moisture, so babies wearing them have less chance of developing skin and diaper rashes. I plan to support local businesses by using wool made in Maine. The wool is not treated with chemicals like most wool so it is hypoallergenic and is a source of natural lanolin which is great for the skin. Organic cotton is better for the environment because it is grown without the pesticides that are used in most cottons. These unhealthy compounds are spread into our food, water and air. Our guarantee is that products sold by "Peace, Love and Cloth" will always be well- made, soft, and beneficial to the environment and the local community.

My Partners...
Ruth Johnson is a Master Knitter; she has been knitting for over 60 years for her 5 kids and 9 grandkids. She does outstanding, high quality, creative work-and fast! My son is lucky to have a grandma like her!
Lacey Donle helps me with the work and provides loads of moral support. Kind hearted and a real friend, Lacey, a true Mainer, is the hardest worker I know!
Nancy Leavitt (my mom) has been a tremendous help with her sewing; always ready to pitch in and make diapering supplies.
These three, along with my partner Tim, and my son Everett, are all fantastic helpers and inspirations without whom I wouldn't have done it. Thank you for your support.
Peace, love, happiness and cloth,

Abigail
